Why Oath

The budget is table stakes.
Keeping your word is the point.

Plenty of apps can track your money. The difference is everything that happens next.

Most budgeting apps…

…hand you a method.

Oath gives you a reason to keep it.

Most are scoreboards — they tally what already happened and leave the hard part, actually sticking with it, to you. Oath is built to move you forward. It turns your plan into a promise to your future self and is designed, screen by screen, to help you keep it. Motivation is the part nobody else owns. We do.

…bolt goals on as an afterthought.

Saving and debt payoff, one system.

A starter fund and a $2,300 credit card are the same kind of promise — money moving toward a target. Oath treats them that way: each goal lives with a real account, with progress you can watch and milestones worth celebrating.

…assume you already speak finance.

Oath meets you where you are.

It builds your first 50/30/20 budget from your income, so you never face a blank slate, and teaches in context instead of up front. The same app serves someone paying off their first card and someone maxing out their 401(k) — no jargon wall at the door.

…make you choose: sync it all, or track by hand.

Manual and connected, together.

Link accounts through Plaid, import a CSV, or enter cash by hand — in the same budget, at the same time. Nothing forces a bank login before you see value, and nothing locks you out of automation once you want it.

The origin story

Born from a spreadsheet
that actually worked.

Oath started as one person's spreadsheet — built and refined over years to make sense of paychecks, categories, autopays, and goals. As it grew, so did its value. Oath is that system, rebuilt as software, sharpened, and made for everyone.

What's inside

Every part of your money,
in one place.

Oath pulls together the pieces most people scatter across apps, sheets, and shoeboxes — and makes the whole picture make sense.

Budgets that breathe

Build a monthly budget, tag bills to the paycheck that pays them, flag autopays, and watch "remaining" tick down throughout the month.

The 50/30/20 lens

See your budget through the classic health rule — 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings — tracked both as planned and as lived.

Accounts, not silos

Checking, savings, credit cards, mortgages, loans — each with running balances, posted dates, categories, notes, and reimbursement flags.

Wages & 401(k)

Hourly or salary. Estimated and actual take-home. Employee + employer match. Want to max out your 401(k)? Oath shows you exactly how.

Goals that get closer

Define what you're saving for. Track progress. Celebrate milestones in the amber moments that make the journey feel rewarding.

— The journey starts here.

Transaction groupings

Tag transactions across any account — "Summer 2025 Beach Vacation," "Kitchen Reno" — and get instant totals, breakdowns, and charts.

Categories that learn

Teach Oath once that Kroger = groceries, and every Kroger transaction lands in the right budget line, forever.

Subscriptions, surfaced

Every monthly and annual service in one list, with bill dates and category mappings — so nothing renews in the shadows.

Stocks & equity

Tickers, shares, cost basis. Auto-pulled prices. Real-time unrealized gain — without doing the math.

Generated automatically

Reports you don't have to build.

Plug in your accounts and Oath generates the views you'd otherwise spend Sunday afternoons on: utilities trends, variable-spending charts, a full financial statement of assets / liabilities / net worth, group breakdowns, monthly spending by category.

A simple, time-tested rule

The 50/30/20 rule,
made visible.

Half your income on needs. Thirty percent on wants. Twenty percent saved or invested. It's the classic personal-finance health check — and Oath tracks both your planned percentages and your actual ones so you can see how you're really doing.

  • Needs — rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, insurance.
  • Wants — dining out, streaming, hobbies, the fun stuff.
  • Save & invest — emergency fund, retirement, the future you.

About Oath

Brighter futures,
one kept promise at a time.

Oath exists because most personal finance tools are built for people who already have it figured out — or for people who just want to be sold something.

We started from the other side of the problem — not as experts, but as someone learning to make sense of their own money, one month at a time. The approach worked. Year over year, the picture got brighter. So we rebuilt it as software, sharpened it, and opened it up to everyone.

Oath is for the person paying off their first card and the person maxing out their 401(k). It's for the household budgeting a vacation and the freelancer projecting next quarter's income. It's for anyone who wants their money to make sense — and their future to feel within reach.

Your word. Your future. One month at a time.

Privacy & security

Your money's data,
guarded like it's ours.

Oath holds some of the most personal information you have. We treat protecting it as a feature, not an afterthought — here's how.

Bank-grade encryption

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The connection between you and Oath is secured the same way your bank secures yours.

Your data is walled off

Isolation is enforced at the database level, on every single table — so your information is only ever visible to you. We check that guarantee automatically on every release.

Bank connections, locked down

When you connect an account, its credentials are encrypted in a dedicated vault and never stored in plain text. You choose exactly which accounts to link — and you can always start fully by hand instead.

Continuously monitored

Our code and every dependency it relies on are automatically scanned for vulnerabilities on every change, with independent layers watching for supply-chain risks — so issues are caught and fixed fast.

You're in control

It's your data — and it stays that way.

Your numbers are yours to keep — as completely as if you'd written them down yourself. No lock-in, no quiet data sales, no surprises. Take your full history with you whenever you like.

Think you've found a security issue? We genuinely want to hear from you — help@oath.money.

  • We never sell your data
  • No ads, ever
  • Export everything, any time
  • Manual-first — connecting a bank is always optional
Questions

Good ones, asked often.

How is Oath different from other budgeting apps?+

Most budgeting apps hand you a method and a dashboard, then leave the hardest part — actually staying with it — up to you. Oath is built around motivation: it turns your plan into a promise to your future self and is designed end to end to help you keep it. Saving and paying off debt live in one goal system, manual and connected accounts work side by side, and the whole experience meets you where you are — whether you are paying off your first card or maxing out your 401(k).

Is my data safe?+

Yes. Oath uses bank-grade encryption in transit and at rest, and your data is isolated at the database level so it is only ever visible to you — a guarantee we verify automatically on every release. We never sell your data, and you can export everything you have ever entered at any time, in standard formats.

Do I have to connect my bank?+

No. Oath is built on the philosophy that you should own your data. You can enter transactions manually, import CSVs, or — when you are ready — connect accounts. Manual and connected accounts work together in the same budget, so the choice is always yours.

Is Oath good for beginners?+

Yes. Oath is designed to meet you where you are, without assuming you already know finance. It builds a 50/30/20 budget from your income so you are never staring at a blank slate, teaches concepts in context, and starts you with a single promise to keep rather than thirty categories to fill in.

Can I use Oath on my phone?+

The Oath web app is fully responsive and works beautifully on phones today, and it installs to your home screen like a native app. Native iOS, iPadOS, and Android apps are on the way, with full feature parity.

What if I’m coming from a spreadsheet?+

You’re our people — Oath grew out of one. Import your data via CSV and we’ll help you map your columns to budgets, accounts, and categories, so you keep the structure you built and lose the manual upkeep.

Can I cancel any time?+

Always. Cancel from your account settings — no calls, no clawbacks. Your data stays exportable for 90 days after cancellation.

Make the promise

Your future is closer
than you think.

Five minutes to set up. A free plan that's actually useful. A clearer picture of your money before the end of the day.
